If you’re looking for budget accommodation in Sanur Bali that doesn’t feel like a compromise, this one is worth reading. We stayed three nights at Duyung Homestay in Sanur and paid around $35 Australian a night. We chose it because we wanted to see what you actually get at the real budget end of Sanur accommodation — not a resort, not a villa, just a clean, quiet place run by good people in a great location. This is the sort of place we genuinely enjoy. Small, not overcrowded, and you get to feel like you’re actually in Bali rather than a tourist bubble.

Duyung Homestay is on Jl. Duyung in Sanur — inconspicuous, hidden behind a small door and only noticeable by the sign out the front. Once you walk in you’ll see the small check-in desk. There may or may not be staff there when you arrive. If not, a quick ring of the bell will alert them. Near the front desk is a little reading area with books you can borrow and a fridge selling soft drinks and cold beers.

What is our room like at Duyung Homestay?

Our room was small but tidy. There is also a family room available if you need a bit more space. The room has a fridge, desk, TV, bed, bathroom with shower and air conditioning — which in Bali is the most important thing of all.

We could not fault the bed. It was comfortable and the pillows were good. Watch your shins though — it’s one of those beds with a wooden platform around it. The air conditioner on the wall did a really good job of keeping the room cool. We’ve stayed at more expensive Sanur hotels with warmer rooms than this one. When you walk in out of the Bali heat, the cool air hits you perfectly.

One thing to remember — keep the bathroom door shut. Warm air sneaks in through the ventilation in there and the room heats up quickly if you leave it open.

The small fridge worked well. If you want something really cold, leave it in for a few hours or overnight.

The bathroom was a decent size — one of those open-type wet rooms with shower, basin and toilet all together. The only thing missing is somewhere to put your bathroom bag. There’s no shelf space for soap or shampoo, though soap, bodywash and shampoo are supplied. We ended up keeping our bag on the bench near the TV. Shower pressure was really good, though if you have any dexterity issues with your fingers you might find the taps a bit stiff.

The bathroom tiles are not slippery which is great, but be careful stepping back into the room — the floor tiles can be slippery when wet and there are no grab rails.

There is mould. If mould bothers you, Duyung Homestay is not the right choice. But you have to remember what you’re paying — $30 to $35 a night. The room is serviced daily, you get your bed made and fresh towels, and at this price that is genuinely good value for Sanur Bali accommodation.

Outside each room is a small patio area with a couple of chairs and a little table. It’s a nice spot for an evening Bintang. There’s also a small rack to hang out pool towels or wet clothes.

Breakfast is included with your booking. There’s a small kitchen and breakfast area near the front gate. When we checked in we were given a card for free toast and coffee each morning. We didn’t use it — there are so many great places to eat breakfast in Sanur nearby. We actually walked to Andaz for breakfast, which is close by and one of the best breakfasts in Sanur.

Is there a pool at Duyung Homestay?

The pool is small — maybe 5 to 6 metres long — with a couple of lounge chairs on one side and umbrellas. For a cheap homestay in Sanur Bali, having a pool at all is a bonus.

We actually spent quite a bit of time in the pool one afternoon. We were the only ones using it, grabbed some cold beers and stayed in the water during the hottest part of the day. For $35 a night that’s a pretty good deal.

On accessibility — Duyung Homestay is not suitable for people with mobility issues or wheelchair users. There’s a steep little ramp to get into reception, a couple of steps into the room, and the same to get into the pool area. Worth knowing before you book.

How quiet is Duyung Homestay?

With only nine or ten rooms, the homestay was pretty quiet at night. It sits close to the road so you can hear the occasional motorbike during the day, but overnight — nothing. No vehicles woke us up at any point during three nights. You might hear a gecko outside doing his thing, but that’s Bali. The rooms themselves were perfectly quiet.

The other guests were friendly. The guys at reception were fantastic — everyone said hello, guests included. It had a relaxed, genuine feel that you don’t always get at busier Sanur hotels.

Where is Duyung Homestay located in Sanur?

The location is genuinely one of the best things about staying here. Sanur Beach is about 200 metres away. Jalan Danau Tamblingan — the main strip of Sanur, Bali with shops, restaurants, takeaways and convenience stores — is about 150 metres. For budget accommodation in Sanur Bali, it’s hard to find anything at this price point in a position this good with beach access this close.

Is Duyung Homestay worth it?

Yes. If you can overlook the mould and the lack of bathroom shelf space, it’s a genuine bargain. $30 to $35 Australian, $20 US, around £15. For Sanur Bali accommodation at that price, in that location, with a pool, daily cleaning and breakfast included — it’s hard to argue with.

The only real challenge is getting a room. With nine or ten rooms available it books out quickly. We booked eight months ahead. If you’re planning to stay here on a budget, don’t leave it too late.

Duyung Homestay is a thumbs up from us. We liked the location, the price, the pool, and the people who run it. The rooms are as good as you’re going to get for $30 to $35 a night in Sanur. A real winner for couples or solo travellers looking for affordable accommodation in Sanur Bali without sacrificing location.

The check-in process was smooth. We were asked to take a seat and offered a cold drink while they sorted our documents. After that, we were given the keys and a porter accompanied us with our luggage to room 306.

What was the deluxe room at Segara Village like?

We had booked a deluxe room and were surprised to find single beds rather than a queen. To be fair, the staff offered to change them straight away, which we declined — we sleep perfectly well without each other.

The room layout was a little unusual. As you enter, you walk straight into the bathroom area — toilet and shower to the left, sink and wardrobe to the right. The bedroom itself is further in, studio-style, with a TV and a long desk running underneath it. It is an odd flow but once you’re settled in it works fine.

The beds were comfortable but on the firm side, as you find across most of Asia. Standard two pillows, small fridge with drinks already in it — we never touch the minibar, it is always more expensive.

Each room has its own private patio with two small but comfortable couches. The patio is shielded by a brick wall with a garden and fish pond in between. We spent time out there watching the birds, koi fish and squirrels that seemed to be everywhere.

The air conditioning was excellent — cold, quiet and set to 18 degrees it stayed there for three days. We’ve stayed at Sanur hotels that cost more with worse air conditioning than this. Coming in from the Bali heat to a properly cold room never gets old. Your sunglasses fog up the moment you walk out the door — that’s how you know it’s working.

At night the room was pitch black. The curtains blacked everything out even during the day. The resort was genuinely quiet after 9pm — Segara Village is not a party scene and that suits us perfectly.

Getting back to the bathroom — it is ultra clean which is exactly what you would expect from a resort at this level. The shower door opens outward into the entrance area. Inside the shower there is body wash and shampoo, a black makeup face washer, and a small stool to sit on. Water pressure was excellent — nothing worse than weak pressure in a shower. If you carry a little extra weight the stool is tricky to use because the shower head is fixed rather than detachable.

The toilet has the standard bum gun, less powerful than some we have encountered. Plenty of room in there. The toiletries — sanitary bag, shower cap, two dental kits and cotton buds — were replaced every single day. Bottled water came in reusable glass bottles for teeth brushing, collected and replaced daily along with towels.

What is the accessibility like at Segara Village?

Segara Village Hotel Sanur is reasonably accessible for guests with mobility issues. The section we stayed in had no steps — it was ramp-style all the way through. There was ramp access to the breakfast area and straight onto the Sanur beach path. The back pool had steps with handrails for entry.

What is the breakfast like at Segara Village?

We will be straight with you on this. We have had better breakfasts at Sanur hotels that cost less. The criticism is about variety rather than quality — once you move past the egg station there are only around six food warmers to choose from.

The egg station covers scrambled, omelette, poached, fried, sausages and hash browns. Fresh fruit, salad, yogurt and cereals are all there. Continental area with cold meats, cheese and small sweet treats. The bread and pastries were a genuine standout — they bake on premises and it shows. Plenty of juices, coffee and tea. The coffee is from an automatic machine but barista coffee is available at extra cost.

What are the pools like at Segara Village?

Segara Village Bali has three accessible pools — a fourth appears to be reserved for the private villas. The pools are genuinely one of the best features of this beachfront Sanur resort.

The main pool near the beach is the most popular. Surrounded by sun loungers, tables, chairs and umbrellas with food and drink service all day. Get there early and put your towels down — the pool towel crew is out before 9am.

The spa pool has a bar in the middle where someone makes cocktails and pours beers while you sit in the water. Yes, we did exactly that. It tends to be the least busy of the three which makes it all the more appealing.

One thing worth knowing — drinks at the hotel carry a significant tax on top of the listed price. Service tax and government tax together can add 20% or more. The price on the menu is not the price you pay.

The back pool was our favourite. Smaller, more secluded, shaded by trees, quieter. Every day we were there we swam in the back pool. Less crowded and more comfortable than the main pool by a long way.

The Byrd House at Segara Village

One of the things that makes Segara Village Sanur stand out is the Byrd House. It is the resort’s beach club, bar and breakfast venue — and the architecture is genuinely stunning. Built to resemble a bird’s nest, made from what looks like bamboo, it is a real landmark on the Sanur beachfront.

There is an undercover area, an indoor air-conditioned section and an open area on the beach. All staffed, all day. The banana caramel milkshakes are outstanding. They also do a high tea set worth ordering.

Every afternoon there is a complimentary mini afternoon tea — free coffee, tea and cakes. Not a big spread but a nice little touch. You do not need to be a guest to stop at the Byrd House for a drink or food. A lot of people come in specifically for the walk-in breakfast at Segara Village.

Hotel facilities we did not try

A few things worth mentioning that we did not get around to using. There is a kids playground and kids club making Segara Village a solid option for families visiting Sanur. There is an onsite spa and wellness centre that was busy every day we were there, a tennis court, and ice baths available to guests.

Where is Segara Village located in Sanur?

Segara Village Hotel is on Jl. Segara Ayu in Sanur, Bali — you will use this address for taxis and drivers. Once checked in, most guests come and go via the front entrance which leads directly onto the beach path. The location is one of the strongest arguments for staying here.

Is Segara Village Hotel Sanur worth it?

We enjoyed our three-night stay. Segara Village is lush, green and genuinely Balinese in feel — palm trees, statues, fish ponds and birds everywhere. It looks and feels like the Bali people come for.

The room was good. Around $160 a night, air con worked perfectly, room was always clean, and the nightly bed turndown service is one of those small touches that makes you feel looked after. The location right on the beach with Icon Mall up the road and Tootsie’s Beach Bar 20 metres away is hard to beat.

The breakfast was the main disappointment. We have stayed at cheaper Sanur hotels with better breakfast variety. The egg station and fresh baked goods are excellent — it is purely the number of hot food options that lets it down.

One honest observation — out of the Sanur resorts we have stayed at, the Prama Beach Resort had a friendlier pool vibe. Segara is more refined and slightly quieter socially. Whether that suits you depends on what kind of holiday you are after.

Overall — Segara Village Hotel Sanur is a winner. If you like large beachfront resort-style places where you can swim, eat, drink and not leave the property if you choose not to, this delivers on all of it. We would come back.

We recently stayed at Sanur Resort Watujimbar — one of the largest resorts in Sanur Bali and one of the most searched hotels in the area. Some know it as Swissbel Watujimbar Resort. It is a popular choice for good reason: big pools, a central location on Jalan Danau Tamblingan and a price point that sits around $85 Australian a night. This is our honest Sanur Resort Watujimbar review covering the things most reviews skip — air conditioning, noise levels, how dark the rooms are, WiFi speed and what the breakfast is actually like.

What was our room like at Sanur Resort Watujimbar?

We stayed in a Deluxe King Room with Jacuzzi — room 8250 on the second floor at the back of the resort, looking out over the pools towards the entrance. First impression walking in was good. Big bed, flat screen TV, small fridge, desk, kettle and a daybed for lounging. The room overall is a generous size with plenty of space.

The fridge was a disappointment — it couldn’t get cold enough and drinks needed at least 12 hours to cool down properly. The balcony had a table, two chairs and a spa bath. The spa bath was a letdown too. No moulding for seating so you ended up slipping around, and the water outlet had visible mould in it which was not great from a hygiene standpoint.

The bathroom layout was genuinely strange and hard to navigate. The door opened inwards, which meant if you were standing at the basin nobody else could get in. The toilet had no door, was very small and cramped — if you’re tall or carrying a bit of extra weight it becomes a real problem. The bum gun hangs almost behind the toilet making it nearly impossible to use in the confined space.

The bathroom was well stocked with towels and toiletries, but the shower drain didn’t cope well and flooded the floor on more than one occasion despite a small lip meant to contain the water. There was mould in the shower — common in a warm climate like Bali, but worth knowing. The handheld shower head had very little pressure; you’re better off using the rain shower head which was much more consistent.

The air conditioning was the biggest issue with the room. It is one of those older central cooling systems with a large ceiling vent rather than a split system unit. At no point did the room get anywhere near cool enough to deal with the Bali heat properly. We could have asked to change rooms but packing up and starting again mid-stay is a hassle we chose to avoid.

WiFi was okay without being fast. Running speed checks it came in around 43Mbps — on the slow side but enough for streaming TikTok and Facebook without issues.

The pools at Sanur Resort Watujimbar

The pool setup is genuinely one of the best things about staying here. Two large pools dominate the centre of the resort and they are well worth the price of admission on their own.

The bottom pool near the breakfast area has a pool bar serving food and alcohol. We grabbed a Hawaiian pizza and two cans of Singaraja Beer for 225,000 IDR — about $20 Australian. Given a single can of Singaraja is around $6 that means the pizza effectively cost $8, which is reasonable for a resort pool bar. This pool is the more family-friendly option with shallow areas and steps — you will find more families here.

The top pool is where the lap swimmers and serious floaters go. Ladder entry only and a constant depth of six feet throughout. Less crowded and a bit more peaceful.

Facilities at Sanur Resort Watujimbar

Watujimbar is well stocked with facilities — you genuinely never need to leave if you choose not to. Onsite medical centre, money changing booth, day spa, a common area with couches and books, a pool table added recently, and a full range of activities including dance lessons, cooking classes and scuba diving programs. For a mid-range Sanur Bali resort at around $85 a night, the facilities list is impressive.

Breakfast at Sanur Resort Watujimbar

The Sanur Resort Watujimbar breakfast is genuinely one of the better hotel breakfasts we have had in Sanur. Around 10 to 12 hot food options plus fruit, breads, pastries, cereal and breakfast sweets. A proper egg station doing scrambled, hard boiled, fried and omelettes, plus French toast, pancakes and sausages.

We went at around 7.30am and found the food fresh and hot. Usually later in the morning you start to see variety drop off and food sitting in warmers too long — that was not the case here. A good mix of Indonesian and Western dishes. If you’re fussy, eggs, bacon, toast and cereal will never be hard to find at a spread this size.

The breakfast is in an open-air area so it does get warm — the hotel sets up large fans throughout which helps. Worth getting there before 8am for the freshest food and best selection.

Is Sanur Resort Watujimbar noisy at night? Are the rooms dark?

Watujimbar Resort sits about 100 metres back from Jalan Danau Tamblingan down a long driveway, and the rooms are set back even further from reception. This makes it genuinely quiet — a real plus for a resort this size in the middle of Sanur. The resort bar was directly under our room and we still didn’t hear any meaningful noise at night.

The thick dark curtains do an excellent job of blacking out the room — just make sure they are fully closed at the edges. The rooms have really good dark sleeping conditions, which matters more than people give it credit for when you’re trying to sleep in past sunrise. One small thing — we could not find the switch for the balcony light. It turns off automatically around 10pm.

Housekeeping at Watujimbar

Housekeeping comes daily — bed made, bins emptied, towels replaced. We forgot to put our sign out one morning and they skipped us, but we found the housekeepers in the hallway on the way back and they came straight back to sort it out without any fuss. No complaints there.

Where is Sanur Resort Watujimbar located?

Watujimbar Resort is on Jalan Danau Tamblingan — the main street in Sanur, Bali where all the shops, restaurants, cafes and convenience stores are. The location is one of the strongest points of this resort. Everything is within walking distance and you are right in the middle of everything Sanur has to offer.

There is no direct beach access straight across the road. You need to walk a few hundred metres up to Jl. Pantai Karang or cut through Griya Santrian to reach the Sanur beachfront.

Is Sanur Resort Watujimbar worth it?

At $85 Australian a night it provides good value — especially given the location, the pool facilities, the breakfast quality and the staff who were genuinely great throughout our stay. The pools alone are worth it.

The downsides are real though. The air conditioning in the Jacuzzi Deluxe room was not good enough for Bali. The bathroom layout is awkward. The spa bath had mould. These are not dealbreakers but they are worth knowing before you book.

One tip on drinks — alcohol prices at the resort are on the expensive side. Walk 140 metres to the Guardian Pharmacy or a few doors down to the Indomart or Pepito and you will pay significantly less for the same beers.

Watujimbar is worth a stay if you can get a room under $100 Australian a night. Good location, great pools, great breakfast, good staff. Just ask about the air conditioning when you check in.

Many people choose Sanur Resort Watujimbar for their Sanur Bali holiday — and one of the most common questions we get is what the Watujimbar breakfast is actually like. Is the buffet worth it? Can you walk in without staying? How much does it cost? This is our honest Watujimbar breakfast review after three mornings there.

Previously known as the Swiss-Bel Resort, Watujimbar wraps around a beautiful central pool. Set back from Jalan Danau Tamblingan — the main street running through Sanur, Bali — it is easy to forget you are in a busy part of town. The breakfast area, Tamblingan Cafe, is at the back of the hotel on the ground floor.

Breakfast at Sanur Resort Watujimbar

Rooms at Watujimbar are sold both with and without breakfast included. When we stayed, we made sure it was included — a good breakfast before heading out for the day is important to us, and after years of travelling with children it is the one meal that always works for everyone.

The Watujimbar breakfast buffet is served from 6.30am to 10.30am in the Tamblingan Cafe. It is an open-air area with ceiling fans — there is no air-conditioned section. A light breeze comes through and you can choose between sitting undercover or poolside under umbrellas. The poolside seats are hotter but some people prefer the outlook.

We ate at around 7.30am most mornings and had no trouble finding a table for two. Seating is easy to find the earlier you arrive and there is plenty of room for larger groups — staff were happy to combine tables when needed.

We sat at the back of the Tamblingan Cafe looking over Jl. Bumi Ayu. Worth noting — some people sit right at the back end and smoke, so if that bothers you, aim for the undercover section closer to the pool.

The Watujimbar breakfast buffet has a large range of dishes — traditional Indonesian options alongside Western favourites like waffles and baked beans. There were plenty of different breads with a toaster and a good selection of spreads.

One standout was the Bircher muesli — really tasty with the right amount of fruit, and extra toppings available including nuts, seeds, extra yoghurt and dried fruits. Down the other end you could get made-to-order waffles, pancakes, eggs and sausages kept warm on a little grill. In the kitchen the chefs prepared bacon, eggs and mushrooms on request.

Coffee was available from a drip machine or an automated machine for lattes, cappuccinos and hot chocolate. Fresh juices, a selection of teas and infused water were also on offer.

Can you walk into the Watujimbar breakfast without staying there?

Yes — one of the great things about Sanur Resort Watujimbar is that they accept walk-in breakfast guests as well as hotel guests. You do not need to be staying at the resort to have breakfast there.

Check at reception first if they have space — saves walking all the way down to the cafe only to find it full. You can also book ahead if you know which day you want to go.

The walk-in breakfast price at Watujimbar is approximately 160,500 IDR per person. Note that this does not include service tax or government tax which is added on top — budget for roughly 20% extra on the listed price.

Is the Watujimbar breakfast worth it?

Absolutely. The food was plentiful, hot and fresh. Ample seating, plenty of options and staff who were always ready to help. What if the best part of your Sanur vacation isn’t the beaches, the temples or the rice terraces — but breakfast? The walk-in breakfast at Andaz by Hyatt in Sanur is unlike anything else on offer in the area. This is our honest Andaz Sanur breakfast review after visiting as walk-in guests.

You can arrive via the beachfront or up the main drive from Jl. Danau Tamblingan. Staff will direct you to the Village Square courtyard in the middle of the resort — a stunning modern interpretation of a Balinese village built around lush tropical gardens.

The Village Square houses restaurants including Wok Wok (Indonesian), Blue Oven (Mediterranean), Fire Fox (Asian steakhouse) and the Deli & Bakery. For breakfast you can sit in any of these areas — there are both inside and outside options.

Breakfast at Andaz Sanur — what makes it different

The best way to describe the Andaz breakfast is like a tapas restaurant. After being seated in what can only be described as an aesthetically pleasing breakfast space, you are handed a menu. This is not a buffet like you find at most other Sanur resorts — it is a menu of small-sized dishes that you order and the staff come around frequently to take more orders.

Even as walk-in guests we did not feel rushed or hurried to leave. The staff were friendly and attentive throughout. At one point the pastry chef came around to the tables personally recommending the pastry of the day — we tried one and went back for a second.

What we thought of the Andaz Sanur breakfast

At 375,000 IDR per person plus taxes it is the most expensive walk-in breakfast in Sanur. But when you compare it to the cost of a night at Andaz — which sits around 5 million IDR — the breakfast is a genuinely good way to sample a five-star experience without the full price tag of staying there.

When you are finished with breakfast, take a walk around the resort. Andaz by Hyatt in Sanur is a large sprawling property occupying a prime position between Jl. Danau Tamblingan and the beach — the architecture and gardens are worth a look on their own.

Waking up in Sanur is already a good start to the day — but the Segara Village walk-in breakfast makes it even better. This is our honest Segara Village breakfast review after staying at the hotel and eating here multiple mornings. We cover the buffet options, the price, what the food quality is actually like, and whether the Segara Village breakfast is worth it for non-guests.

Segara Village is one of the more upscale places to stay in Sanur. Most people who haven’t stayed there know it best as the home of the Byrd House Beach Club — the striking bird’s nest structure sitting right on the Sanur beachfront. The hotel grounds are immaculate, with large palms, frangipani trees, lagoon pools and Hindu statues throughout.

Walk-in breakfast at Segara Village — what to expect

The Segara Village breakfast buffet is served in the Byrd House with both outdoor and indoor seating. Most seating is outdoors under the stunning bird’s nest roof structure — your best option is a front table which gives you views of Sanur Beach and the beach path running past. For those who prefer it cooler, there is an air-conditioned indoor area as well.

Ceiling and floor fans keep the outdoor area comfortable. Staff will pull down blinds if the morning sun gets too bright — which it does early. Facing the other way from the beach you look into the hotel grounds and over the pool area, also a lovely outlook.

The Segara Village breakfast price for walk-in guests is 250,000 IDR per person plus taxes. It is served buffet-style — all you can eat for that price.

What is included in the Segara Village breakfast buffet?

The standard daily spread at the Segara Village breakfast buffet includes:

• Automatic coffee machine
• Variety of juices
• Cereal, muesli and yoghurt
• Egg station
• Cold meats and cheeses — kept in a closed-top fridge, which is unusual and a good sign for freshness
• Breads and pastries baked on site
• Bacon and sausage
• Fresh fruit
• Pancakes
• Congee

These are complemented by a rotation of Indonesian dishes across 6 bain maries — things like Indonesian chicken, Nasi goreng, Cap Cay and various other options that changed daily. No two mornings were the same for the hot Indonesian food.

Is the Segara Village breakfast worth it?

The food quality was good and the staff were excellent — attentive, friendly and quick to refill anything that was running low. There were also some gluten-free options as the bread is baked on site.

Honest verdict though — at 250,000 IDR plus tax per person we felt the variety was a little short of what you’d expect from a premium Sanur hotel at this price point. The food was good, but the choice wasn’t quite broad enough to justify the cost as a walk-in. You can also supplement the buffet by ordering from the Byrd House menu, though that comes at extra cost.

One of the advantages of a chain hotel in Sanur like Holiday Inn is you know what you are getting — a consistent, reliable level of food quality. The Holiday Inn Sanur breakfast is served from 6am to 10.30am every morning, seven days a week. Both indoor and outdoor dining is available, though the outdoor area catches full sun and on most days in Sanur, Bali that means very hot — the indoor area is the better option.

What to expect at the Holiday Inn Sanur breakfast buffet

The indoor breakfast area at Holiday Inn Sanur is on the small side — one of the smallest we have seen at a larger hotel in Sanur. That said, it was never hard to get food or find a seat. The service area actually extends out into the hotel lobby because of the room size, which gives it a slightly unusual layout but works fine in practice.

One standout feature of the Holiday Inn Sanur breakfast that you won’t find at most other hotels in Sanur is an Indian food station — Korma, Butter Chicken, naan bread and more, served at breakfast. For anyone who enjoys Indian food it is a real highlight.

While wandering through the lobby for food, there were two locals playing traditional Balinese music — a nice touch that added real atmosphere.

We spent around 45 minutes at breakfast and tried most of what was on offer. Food was mostly freshly cooked and refilled regularly. For the price and variety, the Holiday Inn breakfast is a strong option for a solid hotel-style buffet breakfast in Sanur Bali.

The Prama Sanur Beach Hotel is one of Sanur’s most talked-about places to stay. It is a massive 428-room resort that guests either love or hate. After spending four nights here we can see the pluses and negatives of this Sanur Beach Hotel. This is our honest Prama Sanur Beach Hotel review covering rooms, facilities, food, location and whether it is worth it.

Is the Prama Sanur a 5-star hotel?

The Prama markets itself as a 5-star property but in our experience it is best described as a solid mid-range resort — closer to 3.5 to 4 stars in practice. The pools, beachfront location and range of facilities are genuinely impressive. But the older room styling, inconsistent air conditioning and dated areas of the resort do not match what you would expect from a true 5-star property.

Compared to other hotels in Sanur, Prama sits on par with Sanur Resort Watujimbar in terms of overall quality. It is behind Segara Village Hotel and the Andaz by Hyatt which both offer a more polished experience. That said, at $100 to $200 AUD a night depending on room type and season, Prama offers good value for what you get — particularly for families.

Where is the Prama Sanur Beach Hotel?

Prama sits at the southern end of Sanur which is the quieter end of the beach. The location is peaceful and the beach in front of the hotel is calm and uncrowded — but it does mean you are further from the main sites such as Icon Mall which is about 3 kilometres away and the Sanur Night Market which is around 3.5 kilometres north. Most of the main restaurants and shops are north of the hotel, but there are some options on the beach and on Jl. Cemara.

Check-in is at 2pm and check-out is at 11am. If your flight arrives early, the hotel will store your luggage and let you explore the grounds while your room is prepared. There is a large lobby area and beach-facing bar you can wait at.

Our experience checking in at Prama

Check-in was fast. Staff greeted us on arrival, took our luggage and showed us to the check-in desk. We arrived early so the hotel stored our bags and we checked out the hotel grounds and what was around the hotel. This is when you first appreciate how big the Prama is — a walk around the pool area, the bars and the surrounding beach path restaurants gives you a good overview of how big the place is.

The rooms at Prama Sanur Beach Hotel

Prama offers rooms at several different price points. Some have ocean views, some garden views and some are genuinely dated — clean but certainly dated and looking like a hotel out of the 80s. The price range of $100 to $200 AUD a night covers everything from Superior Rooms through to Suites depending on the season and room type.

• Superior Rooms — the cheapest option. Neat but dated furnishings and the air conditioning was weak in our experience. Only worth considering if budget is the priority.
• Deluxe Garden/Sea View — similar layout to Superior with better views and slightly more updated furnishings.
• Club Rooms — worth the upgrade. Better air conditioning and more modern amenities. This is what we’d book on a return visit.
• Suite Rooms — most spacious option, good for families, but still showing signs of age.

We stayed in two different rooms — a Superior Room on the 4th floor and a Club Room on the ground floor after requesting a change due to the air conditioning. Staff were happy to accommodate the move without any fuss. Both rooms had comfortable beds, flat-screen TVs and good-sized bathrooms.

Is Prama good for families?

Yes — Prama is one of the most family-friendly hotels in Sanur. The dedicated kids pool is a real highlight with water slides, fountains and shallow areas designed specifically for children. The family pool keeps the younger guests entertained for hours and parents can relax knowing the water is calm and safe.

The Kids Club is also available — though we found it a bit hit and miss with availability, open some days and not others. Worth checking at reception when you arrive about the current schedule. The hotel has a number of casual dining options such as a pizzeria and ice cream stand, and the relaxed atmosphere all add up to make Prama a genuinely good choice for families.

Is Prama good for couples?

Yes — Prama works well for couples too. The adults pool has a swim-up bar, there is regular live music on the beach several nights a week, and the multiple restaurants give you enough variety to eat somewhere different each night. Happy hour runs most afternoons and is a good way to meet other guests. The quieter southern location also means it feels more like a retreat than a busy tourist hub.

The pools at Prama Sanur

The pool setup is genuinely one of the best features of Prama. Two large pools sit adjacent to Sanur Beach — a family pool with water slides, fountains and kid-friendly depths, and an adults pool surrounded by sun loungers and umbrellas with a pool bar. A bar and restaurant area separates the two pools making food and drinks easy to order from either.

Facilities at Prama Sanur Beach Hotel

Prama is well stocked with facilities — you never need to leave the resort if you choose not to. The free WiFi was good quality and fast enough to stream and video call without issues.

Dining options at Prama Sanur

Prama has more dining options than most Sanur hotels — three restaurants, a coffee shop, a pool bar and an ice cream stand serving gelato.

• Tirta Restaurant and Poolside Bar — casual all-day dining, breakfast venue, and swim-up bar service to both pools
• Lada Restaurant — Indonesian and Asian dishes including Beef Rendang and Nasi Campur
• Basilico Italian Pavilion — classic Italian dishes with a modern presentation
• Bamboo Beach Bar and Lounge — casual dining, cocktails and live music. Was closed for renovations during our stay but being upgraded
• Prama Cafe and Lounge — coffee, milkshakes, cake and ice cream in comfortable shaded seating

If you want to eat outside the resort, head down the beach path to Costa by Monsta or out on the road to Warung Baby Monkeys or Mievu Hanoi Vietnamese. The dining options in Sanur are varied enough to find something different every night.

Exploring Sanur from Prama

Prama is at the southern end of Sanur which means most of the shopping action is north of the hotel, though there are a number of restaurants in the streets around the hotel. Key distances to know:

• Icon Mall Sanur — approximately 3 kilometres north
• Sanur Night Market — approximately 3.5 kilometres north
• Sanur Art Market on Jl. Cemara — short walk from the hotel gates
• Jalan Danau Tamblingan main strip — 10 to 15 minute walk

Turn right out of the hotel gates and walk down Jl. Cemara until you reach Jalan Danau Tamblingan. From there you have the full length of Sanur to explore — the Sanur beach path also connects Prama to the northern beach clubs and restaurants on foot or by bike. The concierge desk in the lobby can arrange car drivers and day tours anywhere on the island.

Is Prama Sanur Beach Hotel worth it?

Yes — with a few caveats. Prama is a big resort-style hotel that does most things well for the price. The pools are great, the beachfront location is excellent, the staff were consistently lovely and helpful, the dining options are more varied than most Sanur hotels and the family facilities are genuinely good. For $100 to $200 AUD a night it represents reasonable value.

The downsides are real though. The older rooms with average air conditioning are the main issue — if you book a Superior Room and end up in a hot room in the middle of Bali summer, it will affect your stay. The southern location means extra travel for anything north of the hotel. And the 5-star marketing does not reflect what you actually get.

The short answer? It depends entirely on how you plan your Bali holiday. For certain types of travellers this upmarket resort is worth every rupiah. For others it is an over-the-top expense. Here is what we found.

Is Griya Santrian a 5-star hotel?

Griya Santrian is positioned and priced as an upper-end resort but in our experience it delivers upper-mid-range quality, closer to 4 stars in practice. The pools, beachfront location and traditional Balinese architecture are good. The rooms are only marginally better than hotels costing half the price. The main draws are the pool setup, breakfast included and the beach access, not the rooms themselves. As of mid 2026 Griya were updating the main pool area near the beach.

Compared to other hotels in Sanur, Griya sits above Prama and Watujimbar in quality, and is comparable to Segara Village.

Where is Griya Santrian?

Griya Santrian is centrally located in Sanur, Bali with direct beachfront access. Jalan Danau Tamblingan with its restaurants, cafes and shops is right outside and the Sindhu and Baruna beach markets are a 10-minute walk along the beach path. It is approximately 15km from Ngurah Rai International Airport, around 30 to 45 minutes depending on traffic.

Check-in begins at 2pm and check-out is at 12pm. Early check-in or late check-out may be available at an additional cost, so worth asking when you book if you have an early arrival or late departure.

The rooms at Griya Santrian

A garden room with partial pool view runs about $250 to $300 AUD per night with breakfast included. All room rates available on sites like Booking.com and Agoda include breakfast. Similarly sized rooms at nearby hotels like Watujimbar go for $90 to $120.

• Standard Room — 35m², garden views
• Deluxe — pool access, updated interiors

• Suite — best views, separate living area
• Santrian Suite — 70m², the most spacious option

What stood out: the location, storage space, robes, slippers, good WiFi and comfortable beds with multiple pillow options. What did not: air conditioning, TV and fridge are the same as mid-range hotels and some garden view rooms are dated. The rooms are clean and well kept. You get more pillow options and bigger TVs than at most hotels in the same area.

Is Griya Santrian good for couples?

Griya Santrian is well suited to couples. The traditional Balinese architecture, tropical gardens, beachfront pool with swim-up bar and beachfront Starfish Lounge create a romantic atmosphere for couples in Bali. The regular live entertainment, happy hour specials and Friday night beach BBQ are all well suited to couples wanting a relaxed resort experience. The cooking and dance classes are also a good activity to do together.

Is Griya Santrian good for families?

It can work for families but is not specifically family-focused. There is no dedicated kids pool and no kids club. There is a games room which families with kids can enjoy, and the three pools give options. The calm beachfront is safe for swimming. Griya is better suited to families with older children or teenagers than those with very young children who would benefit from a dedicated kids area like the one at Prama Sanur Beach Hotel.

This is where Griya genuinely earns its premium price. The pool setup is the best feature of the resort and a real differentiator from mid-range Sanur hotels.

One of the genuine differentiators between Griya and the mid-range hotels nearby. The resort offers cooking classes where you learn to prepare traditional Balinese dishes, traditional dance classes and organised day tours across the island. For guests who want to experience Balinese culture from their Sanur hotel rather than having to find it themselves, Griya is the perfect place to stay in Sanur. For travellers who prefer to organise day trips themselves it is a feature they will likely never use.

Breakfast at Griya Santrian

All room rates include breakfast on Booking.com and Agoda. The buffet is served daily at The Wantilan Restaurant and includes Indonesian dishes, pastries, breads, fresh fruit, cereals and a live egg station. It is a solid buffet and is included in every booking.

Dining at Griya Santrian

The Wantilan Restaurant sits right on the beach path with views of Sanur Beach and serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. Attached to it is the Starfish Beach Lounge, a bamboo structure on the beach in front of the resort. It sits directly on the sand and is a beautiful spot for a drink or meal with the ocean breeze coming off the beach. If you are going to spend money on a meal at Griya, the Starfish Lounge is where to do it.

Special dining events throughout the week: afternoon tea at 85,000 IDR, a Friday night Beach Dinner BBQ priced per 100g of meat and fish, an Indonesian buffet every Wednesday at 199,500 IDR and a satay night on Mondays at 155,000 IDR. These are good value compared to ordering from the main menu.

Exploring Sanur from Griya Santrian

The central location is one of Griya’s real strengths. Walk out of the resort gates and you are on Jalan Danau Tamblingan with restaurants, shops and cafes in every direction. The Sindhu and Baruna beach markets are a 10-minute walk along the beach path. Icon Mall is accessible by GRAB.

Further afield, the resort can organise drivers and day tours to Ubud, the Kecak Fire Dance at Uluwatu, Teganungan waterfall and the Ubud Monkey Forest. You can also browse and book Bali tours through Klook before you arrive. The free parking makes GRAB pickups and private driver drop-offs easy. On the beach path you can go jet skiing, stand-up paddleboarding, kite surfing and banana boat rides.

Is Griya Santrian worth it?

Griya Santrian charges premium prices for upper-mid-range quality. The pools, beachfront setting, included breakfast, traditional architecture and central location are good for guests. The rooms are only marginally better than hotels at half the price and the gym is basic. It comes down to how you holiday.

It works if you plan to spend most days at the resort, want pool access, beach access and cultural activities on site, or are marking a special occasion. It does not work if you plan to spend most of your time out exploring. You will be paying for facilities you are not using.

The Palm Garden Hotel sits on Jl. Kusuma Sari in South Sanur, tucked behind high walls away from the main road. It is a mid-range hotel that suits couples, singles and families who want a clean, comfortable base in a good location without paying resort prices. Semawang Beach is about a 5 minute walk away and the restaurants and shops on Jalan Danau Tamblingan are just around the corner.

Quick verdict — who is the Palm Garden Hotel for?

The Palm Garden Hotel is a good choice if you want a clean, well-located mid-range hotel in Sanur and are not fussed about modern decor or resort-style facilities. The rooms are tidy and comfortable with an aging Balinese decor. The hotel pool is large and suits families with kids. The location is hard to beat for the price. Beach, restaurants and the beach path are all within a few minutes walking distance.

It is not in the same category as the Artotel or the Holiday Inn which sit on either side of the Palm Garden. Both of those are newer, with more facilities but at a higher price point. If you want something in between budget homestays and those hotels, Palm Garden will definitely suit you.

The rooms at Palm Garden Hotel

Rooms are decorated in traditional Balinese style with cane furniture and local prints. The style is dated, but some people like that. The bed was one of the bigger ones we have come across in Bali, two singles pushed together, and really comfortable to sleep in.

The bathroom is was big, much bigger than most mid priced hotels in Sanur, it had a walk-in shower and a separate bathtub. The room also has a flat-screen TV with a few different international channels and a near full-size fridge, not your typically two shelf bar fridge. Outside your room there is a private patio with two chairs and a small table, which is a good spot to sit in the morning or evening. We watched a ripper storm from there on night.

Most rooms have a garden view. Guests on the second floor get a garden and pool view which is worth requesting if available. Our room was booked as a Deluxe Garden View and was good enough for what we require out of a hotel room in Sanur.

Pool and facilities

The pool is large for a hotel of this size and is one of the highlights. It has a step entry with a full-length sturdy handrail which makes it easy to get in and out. Sun loungers are arranged around the pool and the in-house bar is close by for drinks.

The pool suits families with kids well. There is no separate kids pool but the main pool is large enough for children to swim around without getting in the way of other guests.

Breakfast and dining

If breakfast is included in your rate it is served each morning on your private patio. Fresh fruit, pastries, toast, coffee and juice. Its basic but good enough to start the day, the Bali coffee is not for everyone though. Bali coffee typically has grinds in the bottom of the cup.

The hotel has an on-site restaurant serving Indonesian and international dishes including Nasi Goreng and Chicken Satay. The smell of the kitchen is hard to walk past without wanting to order something.

The Holiday Inn next door does a walk-in breakfast that is worth knowing about. The price comes and goes but at times you can get a buffet breakfast there starting for 150,000IDR. Popular places to eat like Massimos Italian Restaurant and the Fire Station are both just around the corner. For those that like a drink, The Sanur Beer Garden is five minutes away and the Artotel next door has a rooftop bar.

Location — how far is Palm Garden Hotel from the beach?

Semawang Beach is around 200 metres from the hotel, about a 5 minute walk. Semawang is part of the broader Sanur beach area and gives you access to the full length of the Sanur beach path. The beach has sunbeds, watersports and the path connects north to Sindhu Beach and the main restaurant strip.

The hotel sits on Jl. Kusuma Sari between the Artotel and the Holiday Inn, halfway between Jalan Danau Tamblingan and the beach. Jalan Danau Tamblingan, Danau Paso and Jl. Cemara are all within a few hundred metres. Restaurants, cafes, the Sanur Art Market and local shops are easy to reach on foot. One of my favourite cafe’s Stuja Di Pantai is located at the entrance to the beach, its a great place to enjoy the sunrise with a latte.

Palm Garden Hotel vs nearby hotels

The Palm Garden sits between the Artotel and the Holiday Inn on Jl. Kusuma Sari. Both neighbours are newer, more polished properties at higher prices. The Artotel has a modern boutique feel with a rooftop bar. The Holiday Inn is a full-service hotel with a larger pool, gym and day spa. If your budget stretches to either of those, they offer a noticeably more upmarket experience.

That said, Palm Garden is not trying to compete with them directly. It sits comfortably in the gap between budget homestays and mid-to-upper range hotels. The location is essentially the same, the beach access is the same, and the price is considerably lower.
