I love shopping at markets. The sights, the smells, and the locals always draw me back. Whether I need to buy or not, I can wander the aisles for hours. The markets in Sanur are some of the best markets to visit in Bali and you will be spoiled for the experiences they will give you.

The Balinese people are some of the friendliest in the world, and I love being among them. Tasting their food, watching them interact with each other, and getting the chance to interact again are wonderful things to experience.

Are there different markets in Sanur?

I find that the local food markets can bring that out better than, say, the clothing market or the art market. The morning market in Sanur is one of my favourite markets in Bali, closely followed by the Sanur Night Market.

The clothing markets in Sanur are more aimed at tourists buying replica goods and wanting a great bargain, but if you take the time and get to know the owners, you can learn so much valuable information about this beautiful place.

Must visit markets in Sanur

There are a few distinct markets in Sanur that you may want to visit. There are beach markets in Sanur, a morning market, and an art market.

Sanur Morning Market – Pasar Tradisional Desa Sanur

I absolutely love visiting the morning market in Sanur. Everyone is out and about early to get their stocks for the day, and the stall owners are lovely.

It’s like watching a place wake up and get started for the day. There’s nothing like a beautiful Balinese smile in the mornings.

Opening times of the morning market in Sanur:

The Sanur morning market runs from 6 a.m. to approximately 9 a.m. The earlier you get there, the better, if you want the freshest items on sale.

Days to visit the Sanur morning market:

The Sanur morning market is open every day of the year, but the vendors may differ. Some stalls will be closed or will not have things out on days that they have a ceremony or have to attend Temple.

Things to buy at the Sanur Morning Market:

• Large amounts of incense
• Pisang Goreng – fried banana
• Fresh fruit and vegetables
• Snacks – nuts, biscuits and packets to make drinks
• Offerings for Temple
• Fresh meat and fish – some may be put off as it is on display in the heat
• Household items like brooms, containers and small amounts of hardware items

Top tips for shopping at the Sanur Morning Market

• Try some of the freshly cooked fried banana and jackfruit
• Take your own green bags
• If you have planned day trips, grab some biscuits and snacks. They are so much better fresh than the ones you get at the supermarket
• Take your time having a look at the stalls

* Some people have had trouble finding it, but most of the time they have arrived after the market has shut for the day. The Sanur night market is much more popular, and if you attend that first, you will notice a large building at the back of the market. This is where the morning market in Sanur is held

Also, there is some serious debate regarding the Sanur Morning Market. The actual address is debatable. Google will tell you it is Jl. Danau Tamblingan No.10, Sanur, but it is actually located on JL Pasar.

For us, our driver dropped us off at Warung Pengkola and we walked the 500 m to the market. You will pass under the sign that says Pasar Sindu Sanur. We hope this is not crazy confusing!

Sanur Night Market (Sindhu Night Market) – the best market in Sanur

The Sanur Night Market is held at the same place as the Sanur Morning Market, and it is a hive of people from 5 pm onwards. You will find a brilliant mix of locals and foreigners enjoying a meal at the small table out the front of the stalls or in the larger area,

Luckily, the Sanur night market is open every night of the week, but again, you may find that some of your favourite stalls may not be open if the owners have other commitments and let’s be honest, everyone should be able to have a day off!

• Matubak – sweet and savoury
• Fresh juice

• You will find some small shops open in the square where the market is, but nothing huge
• Try the food. It is freshly cooked and so cheap that you can try a few different dishes
• You can get takeaway if you really want, but it’s such a great atmosphere to experience

Baruna Beach Market

Shopping in Bali is one of the top activities for anyone visiting. You may not want to spend days trawling the markets for the best bargains and travelling all over the island to find the items you want.

The Baruna Beach Market in Sanur should be your one-stop shop for all your genuine fake brands.

Address of the Baruna Beach Market:

You can gain access to the Baruna Beach market from 2 locations. The first is off the beach and the second is off Jalan Pantai Sindhu.

* If you take the entrance off Jalan Pantai Sindhu, you don’t have to dodge the ladies that line the beach to get you to their shops. There is a small laneway that takes you straight into the alley that has all the fixed-price shops.

Opening times of the Baruna Beach Market:

Most times we have been, things are really kicking off at about 10 am. Some of the stalls and shops are open earlier at 9 am, but we find most are ready at 10 am.

You do need to be careful, though, as at times some of the shops will be closed for Ceremony and Temple days. If you are going to return or need to go back always check and make sure they are going to be open when you plan to go back

Most are open 7 days a week, but again, they may shut for special occasions.

• Every type of genuine fake designer brand you can think of
• Perfume, hair products, skin creams

• Enter from Jalan Pantai Sindhu to avoid being harassed by the ladies on the beach
• There are toilets and a small drink station at the Jalan Pantai Sindhu beach entrance
• Some of the shops are air-conditioned and accept card payments
• You will find the most fixed-price shops in Sanur here

Sindhu Beach Market

My favourite place to shop is in Sanur, and it is my go-to shop to get all I need when I am on holiday in Sanur. I find it calmer and less busy than Baruna.

You do, unfortunately, have to run the gauntlet of the ladies on the beach, and I can assure you they absolutely do not forget if you promise to go to their shop.

Jeny’s fixed-price shop is in the Sindhu Beach Market, and it is the only fixed-price shop in that market. Some of the other stallholders are clueing into this and are now very aware that people come there just to shop at Jeny’s.

Many will tell you, ‘I do the same price as Jeny’, so if you want to go to the other shops, just remember to know your prices from Jeny’s shop, and you can shop in the other places knowing you don’t have to haggle for prices.

You can access the Sindhu Beach market off the Sindhu Beach. However, the main road is not accessible from the market.

Opening times of the Sindhu Beach Market:

You will find that the market stalls start to open at about 9.30 a.m, but are fully opened and ready for customers at 10 am.

The market is open every day of the week, but the number of stalls and which ones are open will differ depending on the day you visit.

• T-shirts, dresses, shorts, sunglasses
• Slides, crocs, incense, wallets
• Handbags, dream catchers, some jewellery

Top tips for shopping at the Sindhu Beach Market

• If a stallholder follows you from the beach, they probably will stay out the front of Jeny’s shop until you leave and want you to go to their shop as well.
• There is also a famous Art seller, Agus Art Shop, in the market as well. His artwork is brilliant. It is located in a row back from the main one.
• You cannot access the main road from the back of the market. You have to enter and exit from the beach.

Sanur Art Market – Jaya Kesuma Art Market

This is down the south end of Sanur, located on Jalan Cemara from the other markets. It’s a much smaller market; you can find artwork, sports tops, clothes and the usual trinkets.

You will find the Popular Express Supermarket right near this market.

We arrived in the late afternoon and things were well and truly open. We asked one of the vendors and it was a toss up between 9 and 10 am.

The Sanur Art Market – Jaya Kesuma Art Market is open 7 days a week, but again, you will need to remember that every single store may not be open every day.

Things to buy at the Sanur Art Market:

• Mosaic bowls, metal figurines, paintings
• T-shirts, dresses, singlets, sunglasses
• Giant dream catchers

Top tips for shopping at the Sanur Art Market

• It is one of the hottest markets I have ever been to due to the tarps that are hung
• It probably gets the least of the share shopping wise so we found that the stall holders were a little more cheeky than some of the other places.
• There is plenty of parking if you are on a scooter

Why should I visit a Sanur Market?

Visiting one of the Sanur markets is a wonderful experience. Many locals are more than happy to help you, and if you are really open to it, they are more than happy to let you try things or encourage you to try.

Are there better Sanur markets to visit than others?

People will always prefer one type over the other. I love the morning market as it has more of a local vibe to it. It is a great way to see how hectic a morning is in the daily life of a Balinese person.

I love Jeny’s at the Sindhu Beach market. I love that she has the prices on the majority of items in the shop and leaves you alone as you shop.

If you ask for help, she is happy to assist and is more than happy to teach you about the changes in Sanur and the local Balinese culture when you ask.

Why do I visit fixed-price shops in Sanur?

I dislike haggling because the prices are always extremely high, and I struggle to get down to a fair price. I don’t like haggling over 20 cents, and if I would pay $10 for a pair of pants or shirt at Kmart or Target at home, why wouldn’t I in Sanur?

That is how I feel about it, but plenty will disagree. I can make haggling or bartering in Sanur a sport, but I would just prefer to have the prices in front of me to make my Sanur shopping experience in Sanur an enjoyable one.

So I put this guide together of the fixed price shops in Sanur so you can make your shopping in Sanur experience hassle free and easy.

What is a fixed price shop in Sanur?

Fixed price shops in Bali are where the seller either displays the prices on the item or can give you a price immediately.

Many will have a fixed price below their name on their shop sign. We haven’t included places like the Atasedana department store Sanur because they are known to be fixed-price shops in Sanur and may not have the replica items you are looking for.

Where are the fixed price shops in Sanur?

Along Jalan Danau Tamblingan, you will find plenty of little boutique stores. These are mainly fixed-price stores, but you can find some that still haggle over the price.

The most popular fixed-price shops with all the fake items are in the Baruna Beach Market and our favourite one is in the Sindhu Beach Market.

Fixed price shops on Jalan Danau Tamblingan

You will find most of the shops with glass exteriors and air conditioning to be fixed-price shops on Danau Tamblingan. If you are staying in the central area of Sanur, I have found one fixed price store from a local lady, Enny.

Enny’s Fixed Price Shop – Jl. Danau Tamblingan No 192

People told me there were none on Jalan Danau Tamblingan, but I have shopped at Enny’s for a couple of years now while staying in this area of Sanur, usually at the Hotel Jati.

Enny is a lovely lady. She usually has a couple of her younger family members in the shop with her.

While she does not have a massive range, you can get plenty of sarongs, pants, and T-shirts from her there. She can get it if she doesn’t have it, but if you order from her, please go back and pick it up or pay a small deposit.

What can you buy at Enny’s fixed price shop Sanur:

• Singlets, t-shirts
• Hats and sarongs
• Handbags but not replicas
• Gorgeous dresses and skirts
• Small trinkets and hair accessories

Fixed price shops on Jalan Danau Cemara

A huge thank you to one of our members in the Things to do in Sanur Facebook group. Leanne let me know about a small fixed-price shop on JL Cemara.

You will find this fixed-price shop in Sanur just past the roundabout on the left hand side. If you are staying at the southern end of Sanur this may be one of the only options you have for fixed price shopping.

Nuii Collections

Sari is the owner of the shop and she was lovely as soon as I walked in. I had no idea it was here and it was a great surprise.

It is a small shop jam-packed with items. There is a small changing room, and the shop is air-conditioned.

• T-shirts, shorts and birkenstock shoes

Fixed Price shops in Baruna Beach Market

Here, you will find the most fixed-price stores in one place, and they are the most popular shops in Sanur for prices. The Baruna Markets Sanur are the most popular choice for clothes shopping in Sanur.

No matter where people are staying in Sanur they head here either by foot, Grab or bike to get their shopping completed!

Tootsies

This was my first time visiting Tootsies which also has a small cafe at the beach end of the Baruna Beach Market. Tootsies has to be the most famous of the Baruna Beach Market fixed price shops.

I liked the range, but I did feel a little pushed by the ladies there on the day. They showed me things I did not want to look at and had not asked to see. I understand they need to sell it, but I found it was not for me.

What can you buy from Tootsies Sanur:

You can find plenty of replica handbags, perfumes and clothing in this shop.

• Clothes – Bintang Singlets, hats and dresses
• Sunglasses

Monica’s Fixed Price Store Sanur

Tucked away at the back of the alley at Baruna Beach Market is Monica Shop Sanur. It is a nice, clean shop with a great layout and air conditioning. I met Monica at the shop, and she was a lovely lady.

All you have to do is ask the server what the price is, and they will tell you. However, they did have some labelled items, like the incense coils and the Miranda hair spray.

What can you buy from Monica’s Sanur:

• Hardcover suitcases
• Miranda Keratin Spray
• Incense coils
• Slides – thongs and crocs
• Replica handbags and

Sikis Fixed Price Store No 5

This shop is just across from Tootsies, and I can tell you it is bursting at the seams with clothing and other items, so much so it can be overwhelming to walk around and find what you are looking for.

The staff actually have to help you due to it being jam-packed with products. I found that once a couple of people got in there, it became a bit hard to focus on what you were doing, and it got very hectic very quickly for me.

What can you buy from Sikis:

• Keyrings
• Replica bags, wallets, perfume and sunglasses
• Dresses, shorts, hats and singlets
• Ellipse hair care products, Miranfda hair care products and incense

Top tip for entry to the Baruna Beach Market

We all know the fear of seeing the ladies lined up on the beach waiting for you to walk past any of the Sanur beach markets. As soon as you approach, you are greeted with, “You come to my shop?” and from there, you are followed and questioned continuously.

For first-timers to Bali, this can be really difficult, and for regular visitors to Bali, it is something you try to avoid at all costs.

You can gain entrance to the Baruna Beach Market off Jalan Pantai Sindhu. Find the Mahapala Hotel, and across the road from that is a small alleyway. It has a sign for the Segara Ink Tattoo on the side of the building.

If you go down here, it leads you to the back of the alley where all the shops are located. There are no ladies waiting there to get you into their shops.

Fixed price shops in Sindhu Beach Market

This is my go-to location in Sanur. We could find only one fixed-price store in the Sindhu Beach Market.

Jeny’s Fixed Price Store

This one is my favourite, and I love seeing Jeny when I return. It is very much a no hassle shop, and Jeny is lovely. I find that she helps, but she does not hover around me, and if I ask a question, then she is happy to assist rather than constantly bringing me items I am not interested in.

What I also love about Jeny’s shop is that there are prices ON THE ITEMS, and if you are unsure, she will show you where the prices are so you know it is fixed-price shopping.

* Jeny has a small change room at the back of the store, but the shop is not airconditioned

What can you buy from Jeny’s:

• Wallets, suitcases and handbags
• Sarongs, hats and dresses
• There is a small selection of jewellery
• Incense coils and coil holders

We did notice that after we left Jeny’s Fixed Price Shop in Sindhu Beach Market, some of the other stallholders took us to their shops, and there was no haggling.

They gave us the same price as Jeny, and we actually ended up buying a little bit extra from the stores right up the back.

Is there a difference between Sindhu Beach Market and Baruna Beach Market?

Yes, they are two completely different beach markets in Sanur. We were looking for a shop as we were told it was at the Sindhu Market, but it was actually at the Baruna Market.

They are not too far apart, probably a 5-minute walk between the two.

Sindhu Beach Market can only be accessed via the beach, whereas Baruna has access from Jalan Pantai Sindhu as well as off the beach.

Tips for shopping at a fixed price store in Sanur

There are a few things that you should know before going into a fixed-price market store in Sanur:

• Most shops will have EFTPOS facilities but will charge between 3 – 10% surcharge
• Nearly all have a small changing room, but they can be hot and stuffy
• The perfume is nice, but it is not original. Buy at your own risk
• If you go back, they will remember you, fixed price or not
• If they start to bargain, they are not a fixed-price store

*I bought a couple of fake perfumes, and I find them to be good on my skin. I have not had a reaction and have not had dye on my skin, either, which I was told can happen. They smell the same but don’t last as long as my genuine ones.

Shopping in Sanur, Bali can be as good as Kuta or Legian. There just may not be an extensive and crazy number of items on offer there. I must admit I was overwhelmed with the shopping options in Legian and would much prefer the smaller shops in Sanur, Bali.

Sometimes, you need a more extensive shopping experience, a Western-style supermarket, to find those things you forgot to bring from home. Luckily, Sanur has plenty of options, and here we cover all of the best supermarkets in Sanur to make your shopping easy.

The Best Supermarkets in Sanur

Sanur has two really big supermarkets, a few medium-sized supermarkets and small 7/11-type establishments. In this article, we will look at the best Sanur supermarkets you can visit and what you can expect to find there.

Artasedana (previously known as Hardies)

This is an extensive supermarket in Sanur where you can buy food and clothing. You will also find an array of pool toys, which are all very expensive.

We have personally shopped at all of these places and while stocks will vary from seasons to delivery days, you can be assured these are tried and tested places to shop in Sanur.

What can I buy at Artasedana?

On the bottom level of the Artasenda Supermarket, you can buy nearly everything you need for your stay in Sanur.

Fresh fruit, vegetables, and some fresh meat are available, as are tea, coffee, and alcohol.

In the health and beauty section, you will find plenty of soaps, cleaning products, and hair care, but mainly local brands like Miranda, Harmony, Elipse, and Kispray.

If you are a smoker, there is a large selection of cigarettes at every register. You will also find vapes available at the registers and two other small booths within the complex area.

On the store’s second level, you can go shopping for clothing (shoes, pants, hats, and t-shirts) and local souvenirs such as incense, wooden bowls, dream catchers, and tea.

What are our favourite items from Artasedana?

I always get my Harmony soaps, Kispray bottles, and snacks to take back to the apartment from here. They are well-priced and marked clearly, so I know what I am paying for. The staff is always helpful, and they have EFTPOS or cash options.

I also get my mangosteen from here and some mango jungle juice.

Are there other shops close to the Artasedana Supermarket?

Being on Jalan Danu Tamblingan, you will find plenty of shops close to Artasedana.

The ground floor of the Artasedana supermarket has several extra shops. There is a bookshop, a fixed-price handbag store, a photo printing booth, and small cafes.

Outside in the car park, you will find a gelato stall, a small cocktail bar, and numerous ATMs.

*There is a money changer in the car park near the ATMs. This is not an authorised money changer and should be avoided.

Tips for shopping at Artasedana

• Security will check your bags on the way in if you have one and give you a sticker
• Bring your own green bags, but they do sell small purple ones if you need
• EFTPOS and cash payments are accepted.
• If you buy fruit or vegetables, you must weigh them and attach a sticker. Usually there is a worker nearby to help
• Artasenda is not air-conditioned, but portable units are dotted throughout the store.

*Toilets are located on the top floor of the Artasedana Supermarket. You will need some toilet paper, as there is none in the stalls or on the counter at times

Are there plenty of Western Brands in Artasedana?

You may not find many Western brands in Artasedana. There are plenty of Smirnoff or Jack Daniel’s RTDs and other brands like President Butter, but you will not see an extensive range here.

Grand Lucky Supermarket in Sanur

The newest supermarket in Sanur is Grand Lucky, and with so much to buy, you will easily leave with everything you need.

What can I buy at Grand Lucky?

You are spoiled for choice in Grand Luck, Sanur. Everything you are missing from home is here.

There was also an extensive alcohol section in a small, separate area. We also found a homewares section where you can pick up towels, saucepans, and other household items.

Where is Grand Lucky?

Jl. Bypass Ngurah Rai No.240, Sanur.

If you stay in Sanur, get a GRAB or GOJEK to Grand Lucky. This would be the safest way to get there and back home. Grand Lucky is on a main road with a few crossings that will safely take you across the road.

What are our favourite items from Grand Lucky?

Milo nuggets are a favourite, and they have a great stock there. We also really liked the range of yoghurt and cheese we could get from home, but it is expensive to buy regularly.

A French bakery section up the front of the store, where you walk in, sells some of the best-looking cakes and pastries you will see in Sanur.

I could easily pick up all of my favourite Indonesian products, like Ellipse and Kispray, which are in high stock.

Tips for shopping at Grand Lucky

• You can also get ready-made meals from a stall out front.
• Grand Lucky is fully air-conditioned.
• You can get free samples that are available from servers through the store.
• Plastic bags are not used, so please bring your green bags.

Are there plenty of Western Brands in Grand Lucky?

There is an extensive range of Western products and a great range of popular local brands. You will also find products from Korea, Japan, and America.

We found the most extensive range of sunscreen at Grand Lucky in Sanur. You will pay a lot more than you would at home, but you could get plenty of different brands, like Banana Boat.

Popular Market

Popular is a little bigger than usual convenience stores and is predominately used by Western visitors.

What can I buy at Popular Market?

You can find so many Western brands here, and it has a great range of Dilma Teas for anyone who is missing their favourite. We also noticed an excellent range of cat food, like whiskers.

There was a small deli section at the back of one of the stores, but the layout differed slightly between stores. Some fresh meat and a large dairy case with French, Dutch, and German dairy items were available.

At the front of the store was a small fruit and vegetable section and some fresh baked goods.

*Try some local bakery treats on the stands near the door. They are amazing!

What are our favourite items from Popular Market?

They have a wide range of snacks; we love the honey-coated cashews. We also got some Dutch cocoa, which we had when we last visited Europe.

Tips for shopping at Popular Market

• At some point, you will find an ATM in the parking lot.
• Security guards will help you park if you are on a scooter. Please tip them. 
• Popular Market is fully air-conditioned.
• A few spirits are available, but they are usually at the counter.

Are there plenty of Western Brands in the Popular Market?

Some may be harder to find, even at Grand Lucky. We found a wide range of Dutch items we had not seen since visiting the Netherlands. We also found some really nice German soft cheese there.

Kitta Toko (formerly known as Kartika)

This is my favourite supermarket in Sanur for food. The prices are fantastic, it’s very local, and the staff there are fabulous. 

I love shopping there just because I know I am supporting local employment.

What can I buy at Kitta?

Here, you will find all the popular local brands, such as Downy, Rikka, Harmony, Ellipse, and Miranda. They also have some pain medication and a very small amount of foreign items.

It can be difficult to find, even though it is on the main street. It is set back from the street.

What are our favourite items from Kitta?

Again, Downey, Kispray, and Miranda Keratin Spray are on the list of products I buy from here. I also bought some small packets of shampoo, conditioner, and streptomycin to put in our bathroom bag so we don’t have to carry a bigger bottle with us.

Tips for shopping at Kitta

• Kitta is a cash-only supermarket in Sanur.
• There is no air conditioning, especially upstairs.
• Servers will follow you at times, so please don’t be offended.
• All items are significantly cheaper there.

Are there plenty of Western Brands in Kitta?

You may find some butter, international shampoo, and conditioner, but most products are local.

The Pantry

If you are looking for any specific food for someone travelling to Sanur with dietary restrictions, this is your place. The Pantry is a small store selling artisan-type products you may not find in a regular supermarket.

What can I buy at The Pantry?

We found pasta sauce, The Natural Confectionary Lollies, pasta, and a really good range of fresh cheese. There was also a large deli case with cheeses and cut meats. 

Where is The Pantry?

Jl. Danau Tamblingan No.75, Sanur.

The pantry is a small shop set back from the street, and it will depend on the direction you are coming from and whether you can see it clearly from the road. It is next to the Batu Jimbar Cafe.

What are our favourite items from The Pantry?

My daughters love the Natural Confectionery Company Squirms, so I picked them up as a treat. We also got sliced meat and cheese for our youngest daughter, who just wanted a sandwich.

Top tips for shopping at The Pantry

• The Pantry is a tiny but well-stocked store.
• Bring your green bags.
• The Pantry is fully air-conditioned.
• You can get Rye and sourdough bread here.

Are there plenty of Western Brands in The Pantry?

You can get all your ingredients here to make a great spaghetti Bolognese or butter chicken. As it is a smaller store, you get excellent customer service and plenty of help finding those hard-to-get ingredients in Bali.

Shopping at a supermarket in Sanur is a great experience, and you can get all of the things you want from home if you look. You may have to make some slight changes to what you want or when you can get it, but there are plenty of options in Sanur.

Market City Bali

Brand new and shiny! This supermarket in Sanur is located at the epic Icon Bali Mall, on the basement level.

What can I buy at Market City Bali?

You can literally find everything here that you could need from home. We are Australian but we saw plenty of Dutch, English and even some American brands in there as well. I was even really surprised at the amount of South Korean products that were on the shelves.

You will also find many of the Indonesian products that you know and love there. The snack aisle was also full to the brim with local products we had not tried, so plenty of them went into our basket!

What are our favourite items from Market City Bali?

We loved the fruit and veggie section. There was so much variety, and the display made you want to buy.

We also found the flavoured cold tea that our daughter loves. The milk section was extensive too and we found our Onion Ring chips that Mark loves.

If you are looking for certain products like gluten free pasta or baby formula, this is the shop to go to.

Top tips for shopping at Market City Bali

• It is located on the basement level of the Icon Mall Bali
• Card facilities were an issue on the day we visited, but hopefully that is sorted now
• Please bring your green bag
• Lots of items were available here in smaller shops dotted around Sanur. This really is here for convenience and tourists visiting Sanur.

Are there plenty of Western Brands in Market City Bali?

There are so many but again and like most of the other supermarkets in Sanur that stock Western brands, you will pay Western prices.
