Not a list of recommendations from TripAdvisor, but real recommendations from people who’ve actually been there, sat down, ordered the food and had the coffee.

The responses we received showed us that everyone is different when it comes to breakfast in Sanur. Some people wanted a full hotel buffet experience, a favourite on our visits to Sanur. Others were after good value beach cafes. Some went straight to the cheapest local options. And a few suggested some gems that we had never heard of and don’t make the usual lists.

Andaz Bali

Jl. Kusuma Sari No.10, Sanur

Andaz Bali was the most recommended hotel breakfast in the group. It’s not cheap by Sanur standards but the consensus is that it’s worth every cent. It will set you back nearly $100 AUD per couple. For that price you get unlimited à la carte rather than a standard buffet, which makes it feel like a proper five-star restaurant experience rather than a hotel breakfast. Claire from the group called it sophisticated, fabulous ambiance and service impeccable. Bec replied in the comments and agreed completely. You need to book ahead. There are limited seats for non-guests and they fill up fast.

Hyatt Regency Bali

Jl. Danau Tamblingan No.89, Sanur

The Hyatt Regency Bali buffet came up multiple times in the Facebook thread. It’s the kind of breakfast where you go back three times and still miss something. David from the group described it simply — many different stations, many cuisines, excellent. More expensive than most but the quality and quantity of the food was mentioned on multiple occasions.

Maya Sanur Resort

Jl. Danau Tamblingan No.89A, Sanur

The Maya Sanur Resort breakfast gets mentioned for the views as much as the food. Huge buffet overlooking the water. It’s one of those breakfasts where you enjoy the view as much as the food. Rue, the restaurant out the front of Maya, also gets a separate mention for pastries and corn fritters if you want something lighter without committing to the full buffet.

Segara Village — Byrd House

Jl. Segara Ayu, Sanur

If you’re staying at Segara Village, the included buffet breakfast is one of the better hotel breakfasts in Sanur. For non-guests, the Byrd House Beach Club is accessible off the beach path and well worth it for breakfast with the ocean right in front of you.

Best beach breakfast cafes in Sanur

These are the spots right on or very close to the beach path. Most people said reasonable prices, good food, and you’re eating with the ocean a few steps away. A popular way to start the day in Sanur.

Soul on the Beach

Jl. Pantai Sindhu, Sanur (next to INNA Sindhu Beach Hotel)

Soul was the most mentioned cafe breakfast in the whole group by some margin. It came up over and over — smoothie bowls, eggs benedict, the view, the coffee. Shan from the group said her folks always get the eggs bene, her husband goes the big breakfast or bene, and she’d get the fritters, avo toast or Turkish eggs. It sits right on the beach and the pricing reflects that, but the location earns it.

Tapha

Jl. Kusuma Sari No.3A, Semawang, Sanur

Tapha is right on the beach and came up multiple times specifically for eggs benedict. It’s also one of the better spots for live music in the evenings. Sara from the group said she alternates between street food nasi kuning and Tapha depending on the morning.

Costa by Monsta

Jl. Cemara No.3, Sanur (between Prama and Puri Santrian hotels)

Bec and I have mentioned Costa before and we’ll keep mentioning it. The banana peanut butter smoothie bowl is genuinely one of the best things you can eat for breakfast in Sanur. Nicky from the group called it amazing food right on the beach and brilliantly priced, and Bec backed her up in the comments. She is not wrong.

Genius Cafe

Jl. Kusuma Sari, Mertasari Beach, Sanur (in front of the Mercure Resort)

Down at the southern end of the beach near the Mercure Sanur Resort, Genius Cafe gets a mention for being away from the main crowds while still right on the sand. Good smoothies, good coffee and a relaxed vibe. Jo from the group put it well — great food while sitting on the beach without the crowd. Worth the extra walk south.

Best value breakfast cafes in Sanur

If you want a great breakfast without spending hotel buffet prices, this is where to go.

Luhtus

Jl. Pantai Sindhu No.15, Sanur

Luhtus came up more than any other value breakfast. Multiple people mentioned it by name, they talked about the homemade bread, good eggs, generous portions, around $7 for a full breakfast with coffee. It sits right on the beachfront near the fixed-price shops at the north end so you can walk straight from breakfast to shopping. Sandy from the group described it perfectly — eggs and bacon, homemade bread with butter and jam, fresh fruit platter and a coffee all served under the big trees on the beachfront. Jen added that the mushrooms and eggs bene are great and the staff are lovely.

Bread Basket

Jl. Danau Tamblingan No.51, Sanur

Bread Basket on Jalan Danau Tamblingan was a consistent mention. Freshly baked pastries, great coffee and some of the best-priced breakfasts on the main strip. If you want a taste of Australia they also do meat pies. Multiple people said they found it by accident and were glad they did. Michelle summed it up — great coffee, great food, very well priced. Around $7 for a full breakfast. It’s easy to miss so look for it carefully — not far past EL Hotel and Resort heading north.

Le Croissant

Jl. Danau Tamblingan (opposite Puri Sading), Sanur — also inside Icon Bali Mall

Le Croissant on Jalan Tamblingan came up repeatedly. It is one of my favourite places for early morning coffee. They do a cheap coffee and croissant deal. Freshly made croissants throughout the day, good coffee, lovely staff and cheap. Kelly went specifically for the egg and bacon bagel and the hotdog in the brioche roll. Jane flagged it as down opposite Puri Sading — worth finding. There’s also a location inside Icon Bali Mall if you’re already in there.

Daily Baguette

Jl. Danau Tamblingan No.188, Sanur (near Emerald Apartments)

Daily Baguette is at the southern end near Emerald Apartments and is one of the few cafes that opens at 6.30am. If you’ve been up for sunrise and want coffee and food straight after, this is your best option. French pastries, baguettes and apple waffles were the standout group mentions. Nicole went specifically for the apple waffles.

Cafe Smorgas

Jl. Danau Tamblingan No.56, Sanur

Cafe Smorgas on Jalan Tamblingan has been a breakfast spot in Sanur for well over 20 years. People mentioned all-day breakfast, Swedish-influenced menu, eggs your way and French toast. It came up a few times and we can recommend it for good coffee and cake as well.

Retro Kitchen

Jl. Danau Tamblingan, Sanur

Retro Kitchen got two enthusiastic mentions for freshness, good coffee and a wide range of choices. Dani from the group went specifically for the espresso avocado milkshake and called it her go-to on the breakfast menu. Keiva added that it’s fresh, cheap and she loves it. Reasonably priced and friendly.

Best breakfast for something a bit different

Over the Moon Cafe — scrambled egg croissants

Jl. Danau Tamblingan No.19, Sanur

Over the Moon came up regularly in the thread and always for the same dish — the scrambled egg croissants. Jasmin said it’s her first breakfast every single visit to Sanur and she’s tried to recreate it at home without success. Simone agreed and identified the cheese sauce as the thing that makes it. When two separate people describe the same dish you know it must be good.

Sala Bistro — French toast

Jl. Danau Tamblingan No.180, Sanur

Amanda called Sala’s French toast the best she’d ever had. Samantha jumped into the same comment thread to agree. On Jalan Danau Tamblingan, easy enough to find. If French toast is your breakfast of choice, this is the one people keep pointing to in Sanur.

Blend Cafe — smoothie bowl artwork

Jl. Pungutan No.48, Sanur

Bethanie mentioned Blend Cafe specifically for the artwork on the smoothie bowls. Lauren’s response in the thread was priceless — she had been planning to drive all the way to Ubud just for the smoothie bowls before realising that Blend also had a location in Sanur. Bethanie replied that she’d made that same Ubud drive the year before and is now glad she doesn’t have to go to Ubud again for a Blend smoothie bowl.

Lemo Beach — gluten free options

Jl. Kusuma Sari No.8, Sanur (beach path, southern end)

Hamdani mentioned Lemo specifically for gluten-free options, which is useful since not many Sanur cafes are clear about this. The order was Blackened Egg with Pumpkin Bread and a dragon fruit coconut smoothie. I can personally attest to the fact they have great coffee and are open early at 6.30am. Worth remembering if you or someone in your group has dietary requirements.

The cheapest breakfast in Sanur — Nasi Jinggo street cart

Corner of Jl. Duyung and Jl. Danau Tamblingan, Sanur

Rani suggested the Nasi Jinggo street cart for its cheap prices. This one we had never heard of before — it’s really local and doesn’t make most tourist lists. A street cart on the corner of Jalan Duyung and Jalan Danau Tamblingan — Nasi Jinggo for around 5,000 IDR. Less than 50 cents. Kaye noted that if you choose the yellow rice it’s called Nasi Kuning. The lady running it has limited English but the food is exactly what locals eat for breakfast. If you want to eat like a local and spend nothing, this is it.

For me, a good breakfast is a must on holiday. It doesn’t matter if we are staying at a small homestay in Sanur or a larger hotel, breakfast is a great way to start the day.

We usually book a place to stay in Sanur that has breakfast included in our room cost, even if it is just a basic choice. This gives us the option to have a lazy start to the day with a plate of Nasi Goreng at the hotel or to head out and try one of the walk in breakfasts in Sanur Bali.

It doesn’t matter what sort of breakfast it is — we just love trying different breakfasts in Sanur.

Even if you have breakfast included in your room price, you may want to try breakfast at some different places. Luckily in Sanur there are plenty of options — street stalls, trendy coffee shops, beachfront cafes and big resort buffets. You can find local street food like Laklak, Dadar Gulung, pastries, eggs benedict and full buffets at many of the hotels.

Some of the best walk in breakfast spots in Sanur Bali are at the bigger beachfront resorts. Many of the larger hotels on the beach in Sanur offer walk-in breakfast for people not staying there. We love trying what they have on offer — a little bit of luxury without the full price tag of an overnight stay.

Many people choose Sanur Resort Watujimbar for their Sanur Bali holiday — and one of the most common questions we get is what the Watujimbar breakfast is actually like. Is the buffet worth it? Can you walk in without staying? How much does it cost? This is our honest Watujimbar breakfast review after three mornings there.

Previously known as the Swiss-Bel Resort, Watujimbar wraps around a beautiful central pool. Set back from Jalan Danau Tamblingan — the main street running through Sanur, Bali — it is easy to forget you are in a busy part of town. The breakfast area, Tamblingan Cafe, is at the back of the hotel on the ground floor.

Breakfast at Sanur Resort Watujimbar

Rooms at Watujimbar are sold both with and without breakfast included. When we stayed, we made sure it was included — a good breakfast before heading out for the day is important to us, and after years of travelling with children it is the one meal that always works for everyone.

The Watujimbar breakfast buffet is served from 6.30am to 10.30am in the Tamblingan Cafe. It is an open-air area with ceiling fans — there is no air-conditioned section. A light breeze comes through and you can choose between sitting undercover or poolside under umbrellas. The poolside seats are hotter but some people prefer the outlook.

We ate at around 7.30am most mornings and had no trouble finding a table for two. Seating is easy to find the earlier you arrive and there is plenty of room for larger groups — staff were happy to combine tables when needed.

We sat at the back of the Tamblingan Cafe looking over Jl. Bumi Ayu. Worth noting — some people sit right at the back end and smoke, so if that bothers you, aim for the undercover section closer to the pool.

The Watujimbar breakfast buffet has a large range of dishes — traditional Indonesian options alongside Western favourites like waffles and baked beans. There were plenty of different breads with a toaster and a good selection of spreads.

One standout was the Bircher muesli — really tasty with the right amount of fruit, and extra toppings available including nuts, seeds, extra yoghurt and dried fruits. Down the other end you could get made-to-order waffles, pancakes, eggs and sausages kept warm on a little grill. In the kitchen the chefs prepared bacon, eggs and mushrooms on request.

Coffee was available from a drip machine or an automated machine for lattes, cappuccinos and hot chocolate. Fresh juices, a selection of teas and infused water were also on offer.

Can you walk into the Watujimbar breakfast without staying there?

Yes — one of the great things about Sanur Resort Watujimbar is that they accept walk-in breakfast guests as well as hotel guests. You do not need to be staying at the resort to have breakfast there.

Check at reception first if they have space — saves walking all the way down to the cafe only to find it full. You can also book ahead if you know which day you want to go.

The walk-in breakfast price at Watujimbar is approximately 160,500 IDR per person. Note that this does not include service tax or government tax which is added on top — budget for roughly 20% extra on the listed price.

Is the Watujimbar breakfast worth it?

Absolutely. The food was plentiful, hot and fresh. Ample seating, plenty of options and staff who were always ready to help. The Watujimbar breakfast buffet is good value for a resort-style breakfast in Sanur Bali — especially as a walk-in option where you get the full buffet experience without an overnight stay.

What if the best part of your Sanur vacation isn’t the beaches, the temples or the rice terraces — but breakfast? The walk-in breakfast at Andaz by Hyatt in Sanur is unlike anything else on offer in the area. This is our honest Andaz Sanur breakfast review after visiting as walk-in guests.

You can arrive via the beachfront or up the main drive from Jl. Danau Tamblingan. Staff will direct you to the Village Square courtyard in the middle of the resort — a stunning modern interpretation of a Balinese village built around lush tropical gardens.

The Village Square houses restaurants including Wok Wok (Indonesian), Blue Oven (Mediterranean), Fire Fox (Asian steakhouse) and the Deli & Bakery. For breakfast you can sit in any of these areas — there are both inside and outside options.

Breakfast at Andaz Sanur — what makes it different

The best way to describe the Andaz breakfast is like a tapas restaurant. After being seated in what can only be described as an aesthetically pleasing breakfast space, you are handed a menu. This is not a buffet like you find at most other Sanur resorts — it is a menu of small-sized dishes that you order and the staff come around frequently to take more orders.

Even as walk-in guests we did not feel rushed or hurried to leave. The staff were friendly and attentive throughout. At one point the pastry chef came around to the tables personally recommending the pastry of the day — we tried one and went back for a second.

What we thought of the Andaz Sanur breakfast

At 375,000 IDR per person plus taxes it is the most expensive walk-in breakfast in Sanur. But when you compare it to the cost of a night at Andaz — which sits around 5 million IDR — the breakfast is a genuinely good way to sample a five-star experience without the full price tag of staying there.

When you are finished with breakfast, take a walk around the resort. Andaz by Hyatt in Sanur is a large sprawling property occupying a prime position between Jl. Danau Tamblingan and the beach — the architecture and gardens are worth a look on their own.

Segara Village is one of the more upscale places to stay in Sanur. Most people who haven’t stayed there know it best as the home of the Byrd House Beach Club — the striking bird’s nest structure sitting right on the Sanur beachfront. The hotel grounds are immaculate, with large palms, frangipani trees, lagoon pools and Hindu statues throughout.

Walk-in breakfast at Segara Village — what to expect

The Segara Village breakfast buffet is served in the Byrd House with both outdoor and indoor seating. Most seating is outdoors under the stunning bird’s nest roof structure — your best option is a front table which gives you views of Sanur Beach and the beach path running past. For those who prefer it cooler, there is an air-conditioned indoor area as well.

Ceiling and floor fans keep the outdoor area comfortable. Staff will pull down blinds if the morning sun gets too bright — which it does early. Facing the other way from the beach you look into the hotel grounds and over the pool area, also a lovely outlook.

The Segara Village breakfast price for walk-in guests is 250,000 IDR per person plus taxes. It is served buffet-style — all you can eat for that price.

What is included in the Segara Village breakfast buffet?

The standard daily spread at the Segara Village breakfast buffet includes:

• Automatic coffee machine
• Variety of juices
• Cereal, muesli and yoghurt
• Egg station
• Cold meats and cheeses — kept in a closed-top fridge, which is unusual and a good sign for freshness
• Breads and pastries baked on site
• Bacon and sausage
• Fresh fruit
• Pancakes
• Congee

These are complemented by a rotation of Indonesian dishes across 6 bain maries — things like Indonesian chicken, Nasi goreng, Cap Cay and various other options that changed daily. No two mornings were the same for the hot Indonesian food.

Is the Segara Village breakfast worth it?

The food quality was good and the staff were excellent — attentive, friendly and quick to refill anything that was running low. There were also some gluten-free options as the bread is baked on site.

Honest verdict though — at 250,000 IDR plus tax per person we felt the variety was a little short of what you’d expect from a premium Sanur hotel at this price point. The food was good, but the choice wasn’t quite broad enough to justify the cost as a walk-in. You can also supplement the buffet by ordering from the Byrd House menu, though that comes at extra cost.

A short walk down Jl. Kusuma Sari towards the beach and you will find one of the best value walk-in breakfasts in Sanur. One of the advantages of a chain hotel in Sanur like Holiday Inn is you know what you are getting — a consistent, reliable level of food quality. The Holiday Inn Sanur breakfast is served from 6am to 10.30am every morning, seven days a week. Both indoor and outdoor dining is available, though the outdoor area catches full sun and on most days in Sanur, Bali that means very hot — the indoor area is the better option.

What to expect at the Holiday Inn Sanur breakfast buffet

The indoor breakfast area at Holiday Inn Sanur is on the small side — one of the smallest we have seen at a larger hotel in Sanur. That said, it was never hard to get food or find a seat. The service area actually extends out into the hotel lobby because of the room size, which gives it a slightly unusual layout but works fine in practice.

One standout feature of the Holiday Inn Sanur breakfast that you won’t find at most other hotels in Sanur is an Indian food station — Korma, Butter Chicken, naan bread and more, served at breakfast. For anyone who enjoys Indian food it is a real highlight.

The egg station, congee and fruit smoothies are located in the lobby area rather than the main breakfast room. The Mango and Turmeric smoothie was the most popular option when we were there. While wandering through the lobby for food, there were two locals playing traditional Balinese music — a nice touch that added real atmosphere.

We spent around 45 minutes at breakfast and tried most of what was on offer. Food was mostly freshly cooked and refilled regularly. For the price and variety, the Holiday Inn breakfast is a strong option for a solid hotel-style buffet breakfast in Sanur Bali.

How much is the Holiday Inn Sanur breakfast?

When we visited, the Holiday Inn Sanur breakfast price was 150,000 IDR plus tax per person — making it the most affordable walk-in hotel breakfast buffet we have tried in Sanur. Massimo’s has long been the heartbeat of Sanur’s restaurant scene. It is famous for creating arguably the best pizza and gelato in town. If the lines are anything to go by, Massimos is undoubtedly one place not to miss on your holiday to Sanur.

There is almost a pizza to suit every taste at this place. The extensive menu, with two full pages of choices, caters to all tastes. From traditional slices to innovative gourmet options and super-Maxi sizes!

We found the thin crust base excellent, with just the right amount of tomato base to help you get the most out of the flavour of a Massimo pizza.

Best time to go to Bali

The food was of the highest quality, and the service was faultless. The restaurant is also an excellent spot for afternoon and evening dining, with an exceptional seafood platter and the best-fried calamari, which we enjoyed on two occasions.

The Mango Daiquiri, Mojito, and Lime Crush are favourites during happy hour. The restaurant allows one to sit inside with air conditioning or outside on the couches or at the bar. The service and the friendly and helpful staff provided were exceptional, and your dining experience was all the more enjoyable.

The Beef Rendang is the best we have had anywhere in Sanur, with generous pieces of meat, and the Satay Ayam was a great size.

You will find live music most nights at the Wicked Parrot, so come in, sit down, grab a cold drink, and watch life pass by on Jalan Danur Tamblingan and you will not be disappointed with the quality of food on offer at the Wicked Parrot.
