Places to Eat in Sanur
From hole-in-the-wall warungs to beachfront restaurants — Sanur gets the food thing right
Sanur Gets the Food Thing Right
It doesn’t matter what you’re in the mood for or what you’ve got to spend — you’ll find something worth eating within five minutes of wherever you’re standing in Sanur.
The best place to start is the warungs. These are small local Indonesian restaurants, some barely bigger than a kitchen, and they serve the food Bali actually runs on. Nasi goreng, babi guling, beef rendang, fresh seafood cooked simply and well. If you want to eat like a local and pay next to nothing for it, the warungs are where you go.
Our favourite is Warung Rainbow. It’s a proper hole in the wall place, nothing flash, but the local food is exactly what you want after a day at the beach. This is the kind of place you walk past, look in, think maybe, and then come back to three times before you leave.
For something completely different, Brazilian Aussie BBQ is all you can eat meat. If that needs any more explanation you probably don’t need it. Nori Sushi is worth seeking out for Asian fusion done really well. La Playa is on the beach — burgers and pizzas with the ocean in front of you. Simple, reliable, exactly what you want for a relaxed lunch or easy dinner.
