When coming to Bali, there are so many hotels in Sanur to choose from. You can choose a small home stay or big resort-style accommodation.
The Prama Sanur Beach is one of the most polarizing hotels in Sanur. It’s big, loud, and nearly always packed with visitors. There are as many people who have stayed at Prama and loved it as have loathed it.
It is the biggest resort in Sanur, with 428 rooms stretching in all directions from the check-in area. Recently, we spent four nights enjoying all that Prama has to offer.
Where is the Prama Sanur Beach Hotel?
Prama, down the southern end of Sanur, is mainly marketed for families, but many couples enjoy the facilities that Prama Sanur has to offer. This hotel is a wallet-friendly mid-range hotel for most, even if its website tries to talk it up as a 5-star hotel.

Our experience staying at Prama Beach Hotel
Check-in was effortless. Staff greeted us when we pulled up by taking our luggage and showed us to the check-in desk. We arrived early, so the hotel stored our luggage and suggested that we check out the hotel’s grounds.
This is when you first get a feel of how big the Prama and its grounds are. We took a walk around the pool area, checked out the bars and had a look at the adjacent restaurants and cafes that lie both north and south of the Prama on the beach path.
Many visitors to Sanur love shopping but do not like bartering. Read our guide on the best fixed-price shopping locations in Sanur.
The rooms at the Prama Hotel in Sanur
The Prama offers several different rooms at various price points. Some rooms have ocean views, some have garden views, and some are pretty dated, to be honest. When I say dated, they were clean but probably still resemble what they looked like in the 1970s.
Rooms available include:
- Superior Room
- Deluxe Garden View
- Deluxe Sea View
- Suite Room
- Club Room
- Club Suite
We stayed in two different rooms on opposite sides of the hotel. One room was a superior room on the 4th floor, while the other was a Club Room on the ground floor. We found the air conditioning was not great in the superior room, so we requested a move.
The staff was happy to accommodate this request, and we ended up on the other side of the hotel in a club room.
The club room was more modern but no more comfortable, except for the cooler air conditioning than the superior room. Both rooms had comfortable beds, flat-screen TVs, and good-sized bathrooms.

What facilities are there at Prama Sanur Beach
Prama is jam-packed of facilities for guests. You don’t need to leave the resort at all if you don’t want to. You can eat, swim, drink, exercise, shop and more, all on the property at Prama.
The key feature at Prama Beach Resort is the two pools adjacent to Sanur Beach. One pool is designed for families with kid-friendly depths to suit all plus water slides and water fountains to keep the kids happy.
The bar-restaurant area separates the adults’ pool from the family pool, which means food and drinks are easily available when relaxing at the Prama pools. I call it the adult’s pool (kids can still swim in it), which is surrounded by sun lounges and umbrellas and has a pool bar where you can enjoy a cocktail or two.
There is happy hour most afternoons, which is a great chance to meet other people on holiday in Sanur.
Tip: Reserve your spot by getting a towel on a sunlounger early in the day. Choose the hotel side of the pool, as it will be cooler and shaded in the afternoon.
Of course like all good hotels the Prama in Sanur offers its guests free wifi. We found the wifi to be of good quality and fast enough to to watch YouTube and chat on Facebook messenger.
Other facilities include:
- Kids Club
- Bike Hire – both pedal power and electric bikes
- Day Spa – massages and treatments for all.
- Gym
- Kayak Hire
- Shopping – there are several small shops selling souvenirs, clothing and jewellery on site.
In Sanur at the Prama, you will find a concierge desk in the lobby. They can arrange car drivers, and day tours anywhere on the island for you. Prama indeed has you covered as far as a holiday in Bali is concerned.
What can I eat at Prama?
Prama has several dining options for its guests. There are three different restaurants, a coffee shop, and an ice cream stand for you all. Most resorts will have one restaurant that provides service from breakfast to lunch, but not Prama.
It has outstanding dining options for people staying at Prama Hotel. The ice cream stand sells a range of amazing gelato ice creams, nothing better on a hot Bali day.
Bamboo Beach Bar and Lounge – While we were staying at Prama, the Bamboo was closed for renovations. It was being upgraded to be better than ever. It’s known for its casual dining, cocktails and live music events in the evening.
Basilico Italian Pavilion – A classic Italian-style restaurant serving up authentic dishes with a modern twist. Think classic recipes with a fresh spin, presented in a way that’s both stylish and Instagram-worthy.
Tip: Breakfast is served every day in the Tirta Poolside Bar. It can and will be loud and busy with kids and families. The best time is between 7 and 8 a.m. or after 9 a.m. The food is freshest at 7 a.m., and by 9 a.m., it can be dry and half cold.
Tirta Restaurant and Poolside Bar – The Tirta is the place where first and foremost breakfast is served for everyone staying at Prama. The Tirta has casual all day dining that can be ordered to be delivered to both pools or eaten at the swim up bar.
Lada Restaurant – What would a hotel in Bali be if it didn’t feature the dishes of Indonesia? The Lada serves up classics like Beef Rendang, Nasi Campur and more. The Lada creates signature Indonesian dishes and a selection of Asian favorites.
Prama Cafe and Lounge – The place get a great cup of coffee or a milkshake, do you want a piece of cake or ice cream to go with that? The cafe and lounge is great place to hang out with its comfortable seating in the shade.
If you want to try other dining options outside of Prama Resort, you can head down the beach path and enjoy food at Costa by Monsta or head out on the road and eat at Warung Baby Monkeys or Mievu Hanoi Vietnamese just to name a few.
The dining options in Sanur really are varied. You can get just about anything you want from great pizza, to Indian, steak, French and even food delivery options if you just want to stay in at Prama.

Exploring Sanur from Prama
Prama is located at the far end of the south end of Sanur. Nearly all the shopping and restaurants are located north of the hotel.
As soon as you walk out the gates of the hotel, turn right and start walking down JL Cemara until you reach J.L Danau Tamblingan. You will find plenty of shopping, including the Sanur Art Market on J.I Cemara, small shops, and cafes.
Once you reach Danau Tamblingan, known as the main street of Sanur, you will have so many options. You can head north and visit Bali Icon shopping centre, which, along with shopping, has a cinema and a time zone entertainment area for families.
The Sindu Beach market is known for its fixed-price shopping, while Byrds Nest Beach Club is a great place to spend a few hours relaxing.
The Sanur Beach Path stretches 6 kilometres along Sanur Beach and is great for walking, running, bike riding, kite surfing, fishing, jet skiing, stand-up paddleboarding, and banana boat rides.

Our overall experience at the Hotel Prama, Sanur Beach Bali
Prama is a massive resort-style hotel that allows an all-inclusive stay if that’s what you’re looking for. The resort is a bit old and dated in areas, and the rooms could be colder at times in the hot Bali weather. The staff were lovely and very helpful.
Pros of staying at Prama Sanur Beach Bali:
- Big pool area by the beach.
- Lots of dining options.
- Kids club if you need your kids entertained.
- Live music several nights per week.
- Multiple happy hours at different bars on the property.
Cons of Prama Sanur accommodation:
- A little bit out of the centre
- Older rooms with average air conditioning.
Would I stay at Prama Sanur Resort again? Yes, we would. Prama has many more upsides than shortcomings (many Sanur hotels have shortcomings). The pools are great, and the type of people staying at Prama are generally families and younger to middle-aged couples who are friendly and chatty.

We did not find the place noisy at night, and the rooms and facilities were clean and tidy. There are enough shops and restaurants nearby to allow you to have a good variety of experiences just outside the property. You could do worse than staying at the Prama Sanur Beach Hotel.
Best time to go to Bali
The best time to visit Sanur and other spots in Bali, Indonesia, is during the dry season, which runs from May to September. During this time, the weather in Bali is generally sunny with low humidity, making it perfect for outdoor activities such as walking, swimming, snorkelling, and reading a book while lying by the pool.
April and October shoulder seasons can also be good times to visit Sanur, as the weather in Sanur is still pleasant but with fewer crowds. Pack your suitcase and book your flights for one of the best periods to visit attractions such as Bali Zoo, Waterbom and the Monkey Forest.
However, if you don’t mind the occasional rain shower, visiting Sanur during the wet season from October to March can also have advantages. The lush greenery and cooler temperatures can be refreshing, but ensure you have a waterproof bag and umbrella for your outings in case of a downpour.
It’s worth noting that Sanur in Bali is a popular tourist destination, and the peak season for tourism is from June to August. Planning your visit outside these months is best if you prefer to avoid crowds and higher prices.
